From the moment he saw Wicked in Chicago with Ana Gasteyer as Elphaba he knew theatre would play an essential role in his life. In fact, he bought the CD and performed a one-man show of it in his basement for his family. “Defying Gravity” was a highly requested number as he stood on a high chair with a graduation robe on and swung a broom in the air. His adventure as a professional artist has taken him all over the country.
He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a BFA in Music Theatre and from there was booked with work for the entire year, including the Jeff Award winning production of Sweeney Todd at the Paramount Theatre. Subsequent to that he spent two years in and out of New York City which was not only a test of his artistic ability, but also a momentous cornerstone of personal growth. However, living out a suitcase was not the life for him and something kept pulling him back to Chicago. After making the decision to move, he performed as Michael Wormwood in Matilda at Drury Lane Oakbrook where he received praise from Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune saying, “the fine work of Evan C. Dolan will tickle you”.
His motto in life and in work is to be fearlessly authentic. The Aquarian in him thrives on challenging stereotype and breaking the mold of what a character should be. He is very eager to start this fresh journey with Chicago and Gray Talent.
