Norman Garcy Yap
Norman has worked as an actor on well over 60 productions and recently completed filming the titular starring role in two films: The Trafficker, a multilingual film involving an international cast and crew, and Sun King, an irreverent coming-of-age feature comedy in the same ballpark as "Napoleon Dynamite". His most recent major theatre role was an 80-performance run playing the lead role of Zhang Lin in the Chicago premiere of the Jeff-Recommended award-winning play Chimerica at TimeLine Theatre, directed by award-winning director Nick Bowling. Norman's performances were reviewed positively by reviewers across the board, including The Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun-Times with descriptions such as "Gutsy...deftly handled...alternatingly charming and heartbreaking...one of the truest things I've seen on stage in a long time." He has played co-starring television roles in NBC's Chicago Med as well as Air Emergency and Iconic Images of Election 2016 on FUSION. Other notable roles include a lead in the feature Shadows of Death, series regular role in the comedy pilot Not Your Average Bill, and three roles in the show My Asian Mom at Chicago Dramatists, including the role of Indira, which he performed in drag.
An actor with years of experience, Norman has had the privilege to play many lead roles in film, television, theatre, and the web. With classical theatre training as well as an improv background from IO and Second City Chicago, Norman has become a versatile actor who continues to challenge himself to find the truth in any role he is playing, be it dramatic, comedic, or otherwise.
