Norman Yap

Norman recently completed an 80-performance run playing the lead role of Zhang Lin in the Chicago premiere of the Jeff-Recommended award-winning play CHIMERICA by Lucy Kirkwood at TimeLine Theatre.  Reviewers hailed Norman's performance as "Gutsy...deftly handled...alternatingly charming and heartbreaking...one of the truest things I've seen on stage in a long time."

A recent transplant from Canada, Norman is grateful to have played roles in various productions including a co-star role in the NBC TV series CHICAGO MED, the lead role of Duyi in the feature SHADOWS OF DEATH, the lead role of Doug in a comedy pilot currently entitled NOT YOUR AVERAGE BILL, and three roles in the show MY ASIAN MOM 2014 at Chicago Dramatists, the most notable being the role of Indira, an East Indian mother...his first role performed in drag.

An actor with years of experience, Norman has had the privilege to play many lead roles in film, television, theatre, and the web.  With classical theatre training as well as an improv background from IO and Second City Chicago, Norman has become a versatile actor who continues to challenge himself to find the truth in any role he is playing, be it dramatic, comedic, or otherwise.
