Andrew Carter was born and raised in the Chicago area. He attended the University of Illinios, Urbana-Champaign, where he studied in the conservatory-style program and received a BFA in Acting in 2002. He returned to Chicago after college to pursue a professional career, where he has worked with many reputable companies, including Goodman Theatre, TimeLine Theatre, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, and American Blues Theatre.

He is an Associate Artist with TimeLine Theatre Company, where he recently played Robert Lyons in the Chicago premiere of The Pitmen Painters directed by BJ Jones.  Also at TimeLine, he has been seen as David Frost going head-to-head with Richard Nixon in the critically-acclaimed Chicago premiere of Frost/Nixon, directed by Louis Contey, the pivotal role of Irwin in the long-running hit The History Boys directed by Nick Bowling (Equity Jeff Awards: Best Production, Best Ensemble), This Happy Breed directed by Nick Bowling (Jeff Citations for Best Production, Best Ensemble), and Pravda directed by Louis Contey.

He also appeared in hit productions of Hot L Baltimore directed by David Cromer,  Romeo in Romeo & Juliet directed by Randy White, Rose Rage directed by Edward Hall, Short Shakespeare: A Midsummer Night’s Dream directed by Gary Griffin, A Dublin Bloom directed by Matt O’Brien, and It’s A Wonderful Life: Live at the Biograph! directed by Marty Higgenbotham.    

Andrew recently appeared in an episode of "Boss" starring Kelsey Grammer. The show airs on Starz. 

Up next, Andrew spends the winter/spring season at Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, FL where he will appear in their productions of Once in a Lifetime, Yentl, and Fallen Angels.
