Wendy Mateo is a native New Yorker who moved to Chicago about four years ago. Inspired by the culture, theater scene, and her crazy family Wendy has been acting since a young age. While living in South Florida, she attended an acting conservatory program where among all of the other valuable classes, she fell in love with improv comedy and improv itself became her "method". That love pushed her to move to Chicago, the improv mecca of the world, and continue her education here. Wendy is an alumnus of the iO Training Program and is a performer on Sandwich, one of the iO Theater's house ensembles. Since her move to Chicago, Wendy has also, performed with EdCo, Second City's Educational Touring Company, and has also filmed a pilot for Second City and VH1. Wendy loves to perform as much as she loves to write her own work, which is why her two-person sketch show "Fuacata! An Urban Story" that she co-wrote with Lorena Diaz, was such a joy to perform. "Fuacata! An Urban Story" debuted last winter at the Playground Theater to many positive responses. Since then, Wendy and Lorena have continued to write and will be performing their new show, "Dominizuelan," at the iO Theater just after the new year. They plan to take their show to the NY Fringe Festival next year as well as several improv festivals around the country. Wendy can be seen performing on any given night of the week in Chicago at the iO Theater, the Playground Theater, or still staying true to her theater roots in the amazing theater scene that Chicago has to offer.
